VERIFY THE TRUTH SO YOU BELIEVE NOT THE LIE

VERIFY THE TRUTH SO YOU BELIEVE NOT THE LIE

Listen, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in a lie. —Jeremiah 28:15

Wow… people can be made to trust the lies of another.  In this case from THE Book of Jeremiah the people were believing the false prophesy of a proclaimed prophet— Hananiah.  He was telling people the exact opposite from what our Lord was saying through Jeremiah.  What he said was what the people wanted to hear and they believed him.  They believed the lie they were made to believe.

Fellow follower of our Lord Jesus, we need to be careful and check what people say and not just take what they say as truth.  Surely, when someone is speaking the Word of God, we need to check it to see if what they are saying is true just like the Bereans of Acts 17:10-12—

“As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.”

I am encouraged every time I read this passage.  The Bereans were checking God’s Word daily to see if what the Apostle Paul was saying was true.  They received the message with eagerness, but they checked it out to see if it was true.  We should be people like that in every area of our lives.

Media today is so non-personal— that is, you cannot be and are not in the presence of the person sharing the information.  You do not have a connection with the vast majority of people in media from where information is coming from.  How can you check it out?  You cannot talk with the person, typically, to ask questions to verify what they are saying is true.  People who just take for face value what they are hearing in the media are in grave danger of believing lies.  Those manipulators in media can make people to believe lies.  Beware!

I am so grateful that we, fellow followers of Jesus, have the Truth of God’s Word and need to measure everything we hear through what God says.  That is what is most important and that will keep us from believing lies.  We need to be sure we are checking what we are hearing to verify what we are hearing is true before we put our trust in what we are hearing.  We need to be verifiers of the truth so we will not be made to believe lies.  Let us be faithful in this!

Yes, Dear Father, please help me to know the truth, live by the truth and share the truth.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLX83HbefrI&list=RDFLX83HbefrI&start_radio=1
