ALL FOR GOD’S GLORY
ALL FOR GOD’S GLORY
So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority. The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood. —John 7:16-18
Jesus came representing His Father who had sent Him. He was looking to do His Father’s will and not His own (Luke 22:42). Those who wanted to do God’s will would know if what Jesus was teaching was from God or if He was speaking in His own authority alone. Jesus was not seeking His own glory. He was seeking the glory of His Father.
Now here is a good measurement for us. Jesus sent us by His authority (Matthew 28:18-20). We don’t go in our own authority. Our teaching is not our own. It is what Jesus has taught us. If we come into contact with anyone who wants to do God’s will then that person will also know that our teaching is not our own but the teaching of Jesus and receive it. They will also know that we are not seeking our own glory, but seeking to glorify the Father and the Son. They will also know that we are seeking to be faithful to our Lord.
Let us be praying for our Lord to identify those whose “will is to do God’s will.” Then let us “teach them to obey all that (Jesus) commanded” us. As we are teaching in the authority of Jesus it will be known who we are and whose glory we are seeking. So the question is— Whose glory are we seeking? Our own or God’s? This will be knows by the way we teach— Are we teaching in our own authority or Jesus’ authority? It will be known by who we are lifting up— Are we lifting ourselves up or Jesus? It will be known by the impact on others— Are they seeking also to glorify self or God? Disciples will be like their teacher! Who is being glorified? May it truly be God we are seeking to bring honor and glory.
Oh Dear Father may I be seeking to bring honor and glory to Your Name. May I go in the authority of Jesus by the power of Your Holy Spirit to make disciples that truly seek to also bring honor and glory to Your Name. May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=morHP2cJoZs
