HAVE A FAITHFUL IMPACT FOR GOD’S GLORY

Not one of them was among those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the Desert of Sinai. For the Lord had told those Israelites they would surely die in the wilderness, and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. —Numbers 26:64-65

Unfaithfulness and disobedience had the consequences of a whole generation dying in the wilderness without experiencing the blessing of the Promised Land. It would be their children that would experience that blessing— the very children that their parents said they were concerned for as being “plunder” and therefore would not enter the land as commanded (Numbers 14:3). The census taken before their 40 years of wondering was 603,550 men 20 years of age or older (Exodus 38:26). The census taken after their 40 years of wondering was 601,730 men 20 years of age or older. That was a decrease of 1,820 men 20 years and older. A fulfillment of the consequence of disobedience spoken by the Lord (Numbers 14:26) —“ As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected. But as for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness. Your children will be shepherds here for forty years, suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness. For forty years—one year for each of the forty days you explored the land—you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’ But as for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness” (Numbers 14:31-34).

What kind of impact are we having on our generation and the next generation? Will our obedience be an impact for benefit or our disobedience be an impact for harm? Oh, that you and I would be faithful and have a positive impact on our generation and the next for the glory of our Lord God Almighty. May it be so!
