MY HEART’S TREASURE

MY HEART’S TREASURE

And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life. —Luke 18:28-30

Jesus had just spoken to a ruler who had asked about how to attain eternal life.  Jesus knew that this man’s wealth was his god.  Jesus said, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God” (Lue 18:22-25).  Then the question was asked, “Who then can be saved?”  Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God” (Luke 18:26-27).

This is when Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.”  Then Jesus responded to Peter, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life” (Luke 18:26-27).

So, what is Jesus saying?  On the one had you have the rich ruler who did not want to part with his wealth to follow Jesus.  On the other had you have the disciple who left their homes to follow Jesus.  The point is this— what or who holds first place in our hearts because “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).  Do we treasure Jesus above all else?  If so, then He has our heart and we are to “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38).

So… who or what has your heart?  That’s what you truly treasure!  Dear Father, may I treasure You above all and may I do so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC617kE1maU
