EVIL DOERS WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY OUR LORD!
His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, “Why are you so sullen? Why won’t you eat?” He answered her, “Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, ‘Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ” Jezebel his wife said, “Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.” —I Kings 21:5-7
As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, “Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead.” When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard. —I Kings 21:15-16
(There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife. —I Kings 21:25
Be not surprised when there are evil people in power out to get for themselves what they can and some will even kill to get what they want. People in government positions are there to be “God’s servant for your good” (Romans 13:4). Way too often they use their positions for profit.
That is what we see happen in the verses above. King Ahab wanted a vineyard that Naboth did not want to sell. “There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife.” His wife told him not to be downcast about it. She would get the vineyard for him.
Wicked Jezebel devised an evil plan against Naboth, who was a righteous man. “She wrote letters in Ahab’s name, placed his seal on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him” (I Kings 21:8). What was her plan? In the letters she said—
“Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people. 10But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them bring charges that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.” —I Kings 21:10
Yes, power hungry, greedy government “servants” will do anything to get their way, even kill. And that is what happened to Naboth. Ever wonder how government servants acquire so much wealth while they are in office? They should be scrutinized, but the government is not very good at all about policing itself. They so many times appear to be “above the law. But “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). Nobody is getting away with anything. In the end, God will have the final Word. And I am grateful to know, Dear Father, that is the case and I can trust that You will bring all things to light in the end and do what is right. May those who are doing evil repent and put their trust in Jesus before their end comes. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On-whMoulOM&list=RDOn-whMoulOM&start_radio=1
