LISTEN… AND THEN DO WHAT HE SAYS!

“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” —Luke 10:16

But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” —Luke 11:29

            It has been said that people don’t reject you, they reject the message and not you.  Well, according to the verse above that is not true.  Jesus said, “The one who rejects you rejects me.”  So, there are those who reject us just as they are rejecting Jesus.  Just like those who hear us, hear Jesus!  Now that is quite a challenge and encouragement to stick to His Word.  Not only that, but the one who rejects Jesus is also rejecting our Father. So, we are all being rejected through the unwillingness of the one who is rejecting to hear and do His Word.

            On the other hand, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”  So, it is not just a matter of hearing His Word, but it is in hearing and keeping it that we are blessed.  Jesus also said, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother” (Mark 3:33-35).  His closest relational ties are those who listen to Him and do what He says.  That is a loving relationship!  May that be us!  Oh, that we would have no greater desire than to sit listening to Jesus and then to put into practice what He is telling us.
