THE ONLY HOPE TO CHANGE EVIL HEARTS
And when the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” —Genesis 8:21
Man is not naturally good. Worldly philosophies may promote this, but they are absolutely wrong. We are told here by our Lord that “the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth.” On the contrary, man has an evil, sinful nature. Who will you believe? This is easily seen among young children. We have an early learning center and it is interesting to watch the interaction of these small children. No one has taught them to forcefully grab toys out of another child’s hands. Nor has anyone taught them to “out of the blue” intentionally push another child down. These actions show the selfish, self-centered, sinful actions of the human race right from their youth.
The pushing and grabbing of youth evolves into more sinful and sinister actions as they mature. Look at our world and it does not take long to hear about the evil, wicked things that man is doing to fellow man— murders, rape, war, thefts, knifings, shootings, beatings, aborting, sex trafficking and trafficking for other reasons, injustices, corruption, bribery, favoritism, gossip, hate, slander, lying, pride, inventing ways of doing evil, adultery, inflaming conflict, sexual perversions, God haters, darken minds, enslaved by Satan, blinded by Satan, haters of good, greedy, depraved, envious, deceitful, arrogant, divisive, boastful, dishonoring parents, loveless, unmerciful, encouraging others to practice evil… (Proverbs 6:16-19; Romans 1:18-32). Yes, man had evil intentions in his heart from his youth. The human race is a sinful race.
What hope does man have? Only one— “the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Jesus came and “gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father” (Galatians 1:4) and we will see Him again at His 2nd coming or when we die. “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” —Ephesians 2:1-4
The only remedy for man— “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2).
