GOD’S PURPOSES PREVAIL!

GOD’S PURPOSE PREVAIL!

Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him.  And the king’s young men told him, “Haman is there, standing in the court.” And the king said, “Let him come in.”  So Haman came in, and the king said to him, “What should be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” And Haman said to himself, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than me?”  And Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, let royal robes be brought, which the king has worn, and the horse that the king has ridden, and on whose head a royal crown is set.  And let the robes and the horse be handed over to one of the king’s most noble officials. Let them dress the man whom the king delights to honor, and let them lead him on the horse through the square of the city, proclaiming before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.’ ”  Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry; take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Leave out nothing that you have mentioned.”  So Haman took the robes and the horse, and he dressed Mordecai and led him through the square of the city, proclaiming before him, “Thus shall it be done to the Esther 6:4-11

Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, “Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.”  And the king said, “Hang him on that.” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated. —Esther 7:9-10

For Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur (that is, cast lots), to crush and to destroy them.  But when it came before the king, he gave orders in writing that his evil plan that he had devised against the Jews should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. —Esther 9:24-25

O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might.  O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.  For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah  Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.  He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.  With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.  For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies. —Psalm 54

God is sovereign over the affairs of men — “God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes” (Daniel 5:21).  He directs them as He wills.  This should give us great comfort.  Esther is a wonderful history on how our Lord does indeed work in the affairs of men.  Nothing escapes His notice.  Nothing hinders His hand.  Nobody is beyond His power and purposes.  He is guiding it all and we can trust Him fully.  May we do so even when things look bleak.  Let us keep our eyes fixed “on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2) as we “run with endurance the race set out for us” (Hebrews 12:1). Dear Father I am so glad that You are guiding the affairs of men.  Help me to be faithfully about Your purposes in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  May it be so!
