WE COME AND WE GO, BUT THE EARTH REMAINS

Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. —Ecclesiastes 1:4

No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them. —Ecclesiastes 1:11

For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered; the days have already come when both have been forgotten.  Like the fool, the wise too must die! —Ecclesiastes 2:16

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die… —Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. —Ecclesiastes 3:11

I have, many times, stood on the ocean’s beaches, watching the waves either crash violently over the shoreline or gently nudging it.  I ponder as I watch and wonder— “How many people in the past that I don’t even know but have done the same thing?  Standing here, pondering, watching and wondering.

There is a painting of my parents as they were sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean.  I am sure as they sat there, they were doing some pondering as well.  They have been in glory for years.  At least they both professed faith in their last days and followed the Lord in baptism.  I have the hope that I will see them again.

As I age, and it is hard to believe I am 71 years old already, the day of death is becoming ever closer.  Yes, my generation has come and now many in my generation are already gone— it is sobering, but not despairing.  My home is in heaven with Jesus and all who know Him.  I look forward to being there.  I will not long be remembered only by family for 2-3 generations, but my Lord will never forget me and I will be with Him.  That is so comforting.

I look at my baby picture and pictures of me now.  Yes, there was a time that I was born and there is a time set by my Lord that I will leave this planet through death to be with Him.  What is so comforting is to know that my times are in His hands and to know that I am eternally comforted and encouraged.  Surely, “He has made everything beautiful in its time” and I am grateful to Him for the time He has given me.  May I live faithfully for Him with the time I have left.  Yes, Dear Father, as this day dawns, may this be so today and for the rest of my life by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of many others.  Be pleased to work in and through me to impact many in Your time.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eQd3K2Fxp4&list=RD_eQd3K2Fxp4&start_radio=1
