THE RAINBOW
Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.” Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” —Genesis 9:11-17
“Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly” (II Peter 3:3-7).
The rainbow… it is a reminder that the Lord promised to never flood the earth again. But with that reminder is the fact that, even though He will not destroy the earth by a flood again, He will judge the world by fire the next time and destroy the ungodly. Who are the ungodly? Anyone who has not trusted the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross and are in rebellion against Him (Acts 4:12; Romans 5:10).
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 22:36-39).

Dear Father, thank You that judgment is behind me, taken by Your Dear Son Jesus at the cross. Lord God Almighty, please work in and through me to warn people of the judgment to come and share with them the good news of the cross. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
