YOU ARE LIGHT!

YOU ARE LIGHT!

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. —Matthew 5:14-16

As the sun is rising toward the horizon the darkness is fleeing and the light is revealing more and more. Trees, bushes and other things are becoming more visible and clear the further toward the horizon the sun advances. Soon, the sun itself will be seen and the shadows of dawn will be gone.

Light is probably something else we take for granted. Sunrises, the day and sunsets unfortunately become too familiar. Do we even notice them? Light is so much a part of our lives. We go to school in lit classrooms. If we work inside then our work areas are artificial lit as well. Stores, hospitals, homes, malls etc are all artificially lit and we barely, if at all, think about it.

Do we think about ourselves being the “light of the world?” This is what Jesus said His followers are. Have you thought about that recently? Brothers and Sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ— we are lights in this dark world and we are not to be hidden. No, instead we are to let people see our light!

How does that happen? In the verses above Jesus told us to “let your good deeds shine out for all to see.” As we serve the Lord by serving people our light is seen by others so that they “will praise your heavenly Father.

Jesus, the Light of the World said, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFVpgIFIGJU Now He has sent us to be lights in this world (John 17:18). May we shine for Him!

Dear Father, please, may I shine for the Lord Jesus Christ and encourage others toward Him. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
