REBELLION AGAINST OUR LORD
REBELLION AGAINST OUR LORD
Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have uttered rebellion against the LORD.’ In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hananiah died. —Jeremiah 28:16-17
It is a very serious thing for someone to proclaim a word that they say is of the Lord, but is actually against what He says. For the prophet Hananiah that was exactly the case. Jeremiah said that the Lord would bring Judah into exile for 70 years (Jeremiah 25:11-12; 29:10) and Hananiah disagreed with him and said that Judah would throw off the yoke of Babylon in 2 years (Jeremiah 28:2-3).
What was the result in this case? This serious contradiction of God’s Word, considered rebellion against Him, brought death to Hananiah. Wow, now that is pretty somber. What lesson and life application can we take away from this? How about we better stick to God’s Word and not our own ideas as the Word of God! And secondly, we need to know God’s Word so when someone speaks against it we will be able to immediately recognize it. — “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry” (II Timothy 4:3-5). Yes, may this be so, Father, in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son, Jesus. So be it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ35aiGAchc Yes, may this be so!
