LIFE IS IN HIS HANDS
LIFE IS IN HIS HANDS
In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’ ” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying, “Now, O LORD, please remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him: “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD, and I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.” And Isaiah said, “Bring a cake of figs. And let them take and lay it on the boil, that he may recover.” —II Kings 20:1-7
Three things are clear to me in this passage. 1-We should get our house in order because we will be at the point of death one day. 2- Can we say along with Hezekiah that we “have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight?” 3-It is the Lord that determines the length of our lives.
We should get our house in order because death will come one day. It surely makes things easier if we have our house in order. It would be good to have at least a will and we might want to set up a trust as well. This makes things easier for our family when we die. My dad had his house in order when he died and it made things much easier for the family. I even sat with my dad and planned his funeral. Yes, this made the time of his death a bit easier and also there was not a burden on the family to get loose ends in order, financially or otherwise. He had already done those things. Only the funeral home had to be called upon his death. Everything else was taken care of. This made is so much easier for my mother.
When you and I get to the end of our lives will we be able to say “I have walked before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your sight?” Yes, may we be faithful now so we can say this at the end of our lives! Oh, that we would walk before Him whole-heartedly and do what is good in His sight. May this be the case!
I am always grateful to know that He is the one who holds our lives in His hands. He knew when we were going to be born and He knows when we will die. Death will not come until He says it will. Oh, that I would live life like He desires. May it be so!
Dear Father I am grateful to know that my life is secure in You. You know when I will die and make the transition to heaven. Until then may I live faithfully for You in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjtSwSrE8ps
