DONE!
“It is finished!” —John 19:30
Or… it has been finished. What has been finished? What was taking place? Jesus died shortly after He said this. But what was meant? Jesus “is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2). So that “that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (I John 4:10). “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus” (Romans 3:25-26). “For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:17-18). Now… “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
Our sin debt has been paid! It has already been finished! We receive this gift by faith in Jesus (Romans 6:23). “If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’ Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness” (Romans 4:2-5). “The just shall live by faith” Galatians 3:11). No doubt about it. All those outside of the Lord Jesus Christ are ungodly. For those in the Lord Jesus Christ were not righteous in His sight before trusting Him. No they were also ungodly. Rejoice! We are right with God through Jesus! Now “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love” (Galatians 6:13). May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYzfGA0-yIM
