BURDENS LIFTED

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:6-7

I was on a mission trip back in the early 90’s and one of the fellows that was on the team reminded me of a blond hair version of Elvis Presley. He look just like him, sang just like him, but had thick sandy blond hair. He loved to sing this song while playing his guitar— Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary by John M. Moore.
VERSE 1:
Days are filled with sorrow and care

Hearts are lonely and drear;

Burdens are lifted at Calvary

Jesus is very near

CHORUS:

Burdens are lifted at Calvary

Calvary Calvary

Burdens are lifted at Calvary

Jesus is very near

VERSE 2:

Cast your care on Jesus today

leave your worry and fear

Burdens are lifted at Calvary

Jesus is very near

VERSE 3:

Troubled soul, the Savior can see

Ev’ry heartache and tear;

Burdens are lifted at Calvary

Jesus is very near

What is it that is tearing at your mind today? Is there something that is pulling your mind in different directions? Does your mind feel like it is being tugged in opposite way? Look to the cross and remember what Jesus has done for you. Take your burdens to Him in prayer. Have a thankful heart and then we are told in the verses above that we can have the peace of God— a peace that God gives and that peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. That peace will guard our emotions and thinking process. Oh, may you have that peace today!

Dear Father, thank You for the peace that You offer us. May we take everything to You, having thankful hearts so that Your peace will guard our emotions and thinking. Please help us not to carry these burdens, but to take them to You. Thank You that You are willing to take them off our shoulders and give us Your peace!
