BE SELF-CONTROLLED!

Then a harmful spirit from the LORD came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre. And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night. —Samuel 19:9-10

Then Jonathan answered Saul his father, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” But Saul hurled his spear at him to strike him. So Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death. —I Samuel 20:32-33

            When the Holy Spirit of God does not control someone, anything is possible.  Saul was the chosen, anointed king of Israel and yet when an evil spirit, a demon, influenced him.  The jealous, spiteful and malicious attitude of Saul was fueled by this evil spirit to the point that Saul was enraged and wanted to kill David.  He also attempted to kill his own son when Jonathan questioned Saul about wanting to kill David and sought to defend him.  Evidence of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control (Galatians 5:23).  When influenced by demons, self-control can be lost.  This is what happened to Saul to the point that he wanted to murder his own son as well as David!

            Anyone not controlled by God’s Holy Spirit is capable of anything.  We surely see this in our culture in the U.S.A. today.  People are calling good evil and evil good— “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20). 

            God’s design is good, but those against Him turn it into evil as they are demonically influenced.

• God’s design for marriage is denied and the demonic idea of no need of marriage is being pushed forward.
• God’s design for married couples to be fruitful and multiplied is demonically denied by abortion— the killing of innocent babies in the womb.
• God’s purpose for sexual intimacy in marriage is demonically laid aside for sexual promiscuity.
• God made them male and female is denied by any demonic sexual identity a person desires.
• God’s design for creativity in work is being demonically squashed by endless government regulations stifling creativity.
• God’s design for people to work is being demonically weakened by government dependance.
• God’s design for national sovereignty is being demonically negated by open borders.
• God’s design for youth protection is being erased by the demonic blight of sex, labor and organ trafficking.

The list goes on… and on… when self-control of the Holy Spirit is not present, a person, people or nation will be out of control.  That is what’s happening in the U.S.A. and in the world.  Yet, we, brothers and sisters, fellow followers of Jesus, have the Holy Spirit to give us self-control and so let Him have His way.  Shine in this dark world and bring the message of hope in Jesus to those around us.  Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  May this be so and all for Your honor and glory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvOuEVA2h2Q
