Jesus…
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. —Hebrews 2:1
But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. —Hebrews 2:9-11
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. —Hebrews 2:14-15
For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. —Hebrews 2:16-18
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us… But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children. —Psalm 103:11-12,17
We must pay close attention to God’s Word that we have heard, otherwise we will drift away from His desires! Brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, don’t think it cannot happen to you. We need to be like Mary and sit at Jesus’ feet often. This was impressed on me decades ago when I read Isaiah 50:4— “The Lord GOD has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned.” I know that if I do not meet with Him day by day, learning from Him how to serve others, then I will drift away from His purposes. So let us pay close attention to these things that He teaches us from His Word, otherwise we will drift away from the Truth and living the Truth. It is not enough to know His Truth, we must apply His Truth to our lives. May we do so, Dear Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So may it be for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of many others.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” —Matthew 7:24-27
