THE JOURNEY TO REVEALING “THAT PROPHET”

THE JOURNEY TO REVEALING “THAT PROPHET”

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord… —Joshua 1:1

I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. —Joshua 1:3

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. —Joshua 1:5

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” —Joshua 1:7-9

Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. —Joshua 1:17

And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.”  —Joshua 3:7

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” —Luke 1;76-79

Moses had said, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him” (Deuteronomy 18:15).  Now Moses, God’s servant, had accomplished his part in leading the people toward the time this “Prophet” would be revealed.  Joshua had been prepared by Moses to take his place and carry on toward revealing that “Prophet.”  And now that Moses was dead, Joshua would continue that journey toward the time that “Prophet” would be revealed.

So, the mission of revealing that “Prophet” continued right down to John the Baptist.  Faithful servants of God held to the Word of God as they looked forward to the revelation of that “Prophet.”  And now John came on the scene as another of God’s faithful servants.  Jewish leaders wondered if he was that “Prophet.”  John denied that he was (John 1:19-27).  John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6khv6pGkw&t=6s

From the beginning, since sin entered through Adam and Eve, there has been a journey toward the revelation of that “Prophet.”  Now John would point Him out.  But just as John pointed others toward Jesus, so we are to do the same.  Dear Father, may we do so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus who gave us this mission.  So may we be faithful in it!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dszpVNJIklM
