THE HEART OF A PERSON DEFINES WHO AND WHOSE THEY ARE!
THE HEART OF A PERSON DEFINES WHO AND WHOSE THEY ARE!
It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person. —Matthew 15:11
Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” —Matthew 15:17-20
What a person eats does not defile or define that person. Many people, as the Pharisees, put a huge emphasis on this. What they should have focused on, and what we should focus on, is what comes out of a person. That which comes out of a person really shows the heart of a person— who and whose that person really is.
The mouth is directly connected to who a person really is on the inside and what a person is on the inside will come out. Here’s some of what Jesus said comes from the inside of a person and gives a good indication as to who they are— “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person.” Thoughts and actions flow from the heart, the inner man, the brain. The control center gives clear evidence as to who a person is! The plan of man starts in the brain— the heart of a person.
Now, line these thoughts up with the fruit of the Spirit which should be the evidence that a person truly is a follower of Jesus— “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). So, what are the desires of your heart and what is occupying your heart? The answer to that will bear evidence as to who you are and whose you are! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghowDhd-GUM
Dear Father it is my desire to honor You by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Oh, that I may do so today and for the rest of my life. Yes, may it be so!
