THE STIRRINGS OF GOD
…the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia… —Ezra 1:1
C’mon, the sun is up, the day has started, let’s get going. “Ooooh is it time to get up already?” came the reply. He was stirred and now his feet hit the floor, ready to start the day.
It is interesting how the Lord stirs people of all types and backgrounds to do His will. In the above verse the Lord stirred up King Cyrus to allow the Israelites to return to their homeland which was foretold by the prophet Jeremiah.
“The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases” (Proverbs 21:1). Nobody, regardless of how weak or strong they are, is outside the Lord’s control. If the Lord decides to move someone to do something, then He will do so. It matters not who they are.
Can the Lord direct the heart of a President to do His will? He sure can. King Cyrus was not allowing the Israelites to return to their homeland because that was his idea, no, it was the Lord’s will and He caused King Cyrus to think that way. Surely the Lord can affect the mind of a President or any other ruler… and He does!
Let us rejoice in knowing that the Lord can turn any person or move any person in any direction to accomplish what He desires. Nobody is outside of His ability to guide. Nobody is outside His control. Everything is moving along according to His plan. We can take comfort in knowing the Lord God Almighty is Sovereign over everyone and over every circumstance!
Father, I am grateful to know that You are in total control. I may not be able to understand so much, but I do understand this and I can trust You fully for what I do not understand. Thank You for the peace You give in Jesus!
