AT PEACE ON THIS THANKSGIVING DAY
Peace to all of you who are in Christ. —I Peter 5:14
This Thanksgiving Day, and every day, we should be the most thankful people on the planet as followers of Jesus. It is because of Him that “we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand” (Romans 5:1-2). Oh, this is a marvel “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” (Romans 5:10). Is there anything to be more thankful about for we who have put our faith solely in our Lord Jesus for salvation (Romans 10:13)?
Not only should we, who were once enemies of God, be thankful to be at peace with God through Jesus, but as we live life we need “not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). We are at peace with God and not in conflict with Him as enemies. But we can also have the “peace of God’ which “will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” as we live life. This peace is of God and will watch over our emotions and thinking so we will act and think as He desires. How is this possible?
- By not being anxious about anything.
- By talking with Him about situation and listening to what He says from His Word
- By being thankful in every situation
- By presenting our request to Him
This is how we can have peace and be thankful people! Perspective as followers of Jesus will cause us to be peaceful and thankful. So, on this Thanksgiving Day and all days, may we be thankful. May we rest in His peace. Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Dear Son Jesus.
