Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” —Matthew 19:16

How exciting to have a conversation that starts like this?  But what is the motivation behind it?  How sincere is the person who is asking the question?  Will they see the salvation in Jesus as more important than anything else?

In the case mentioned above, Matthew 19:16-30, the man, in this case, was told what to do to enter eternal life.  But, instead of acting on what Jesus said “he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”  The rich man’s wealth was more important than the eternal life that Jesus offered.

It is exciting when you “run into” a person who truly wants to know the Truth.  Elaine and I took a 7-hour drive from NH to NY near Lake Ontario yesterday to visit our daughter, Hannah, and her family.  We stopped at a rest area 2 hours from our arrival, which is on the Erie Canal, to stretch our legs.  We went over to the canal where there was a lock which fills and brings a boat 8 feet up or drains and brings the boat down 8 feet at this lock.  There were “No Trespassing” signs, but I had some questions that I wanted to ask.  Just then, Paul, a fellow that works at the lock, came out a building and we talked.

Paul was very open to talking and I asked him if he was a follower of Jesus.  He said, “I am open, but no.”  So, we talked for close to an hour, sharing the gospel, answering questions and he said he really wants to know the truth.  We left Him with a gospel of John and a book— “The Jesus Study” and encouraged him to contact us with any questions.  We may never hear from him, but may he call on Jesus and make a huge impact in this world for Him!  Would you pray for Paul’s salvation right now?

As we travel through life, may we be ready to share Jesus with those people who are “open” to hear.  But… we will never know if they are “open” to hear unless we engage them!  Dear Father please help us to be faithful to speak with people about the most important message ever.  Yes, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmqSfr1ENY&list=RDPcmqSfr1ENY&start_radio=1
