DIAMOND HARD HEARTS ANGER OUR LORD!
“Thus says the LORD of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.” But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear. They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore, great anger came from the LORD of hosts. —Zechariah 7:9
Why does the Lord have great anger according to this passage? It is because He desires—
- True judgments
- Kindness to be shown
- Mercy to be extended
- Not oppressing the widow
- Not oppressing the fatherless
- Not oppressing the sojourner
- Not oppressing the poor
- Not devising evil in our heart against another
But, as was the case in Zechariah’s day, so it is in ours. There are those in power positions today that refuse “to pay attention and turn a stubborn shoulder and stopp their ears that they might not hear” what our Lord is saying. Instead of listening to our Lord, they make “their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through” His servants. Be not ignorant! Our Lord does get angry at those who do not want to listen to Him and do intentionally harm others. Yeh, He is not happy at all with them and their willingness to oppress others and to harden their hearts like diamonds against Him.
Brothers and sisters, fellow followers of Jesus, let us who know the Lord show true judgment, show kindness and mercy to others. May we seek to bring relief to the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, the poor and may we not devise evil in our hearts against another. Oh, that we would have soft hearts, pliable for our Lord to mold and live according to His desires. May that be our heart’s desire!
