THE COMMITTED, FAITHFUL FOLLOWER OF JESUS

THE COMMITTED, FAITHFUL FOLLOWER OF JESUS

Then the LORD said to me, “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go! —-Jeremiah 15:1

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” —Jeremiah 17:7-8

I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” —Psalm 16:2

The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. —Psalm 16:5

There is a time when our Lord says, “Let them go.”  And when He says that no righteous man can stay His hand.  When people cross a line of rebellion, that only our Lord knows, then He lets them go their own way or gives them up to their own wicked pleasures (Romans 1:24, 26, 28).  They will eat the bitter fruit of their own making.

On the other hand— “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.”  This person is like—

  • A tree planted by water
  • A tree that sends its roots out by the stream
  • A tree that does not fear when heat comes
  • A tree whose leaves remains green
  • A tree that is not anxious in the year of drought
  • A tree that does not cease from bearing fruit

This is a tree that is not impacted by the surrounding circumstances.  Instead, this tree is trusting in the Lord where all good things come from (James 1:17).  This tree knows that it has no good thing apart from the Lord and that the Lord is its “portion and cup.”  This tree knows the Lord holds its lot.  Do you and I trust Him like that?  Oh, that we would be that type of tree.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.  Not so the wicked!  For they are like chaff driven off by the wind.  Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.  For the LORD guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. —Psalm 1

When people do not have a desire to be committed to Him, there is a point where He lets them go.  Our Lord’s desire is for faithful commitment, not half-hearted hearers.  Oh, Dear Father, that I would be committed to You and Your mission in this world.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!   Your Word, Lord, is my authority and not what the world says!  Yes, may I cling to what You say! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Sx_U0Ztr8&t=55s
