REMEMBER REPETITION HELPS US REMEMBER!

…remember what the LORD your God did… —Deuteronomy 7:18

Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth… —Deuteronomy 8:17-18

So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. —II Peter 1:12-15

Sometimes I think we can have a very short memory of what our Lord has done in the past which can affect our present and future decisions.  We need to reflect on the past and consider all our Lord has done for us in the past and then we can trust Him more for the present and future situations we find ourselves in… and have a proper perspective.

Consider wealth… however much or little we have, it is our Lord who has given the power to have what we have.  But this is true in all areas of our lives.  What we have, what we are able to do, even the very breath we breathe is all because of His power.  He truly is Sovereign over all!

How good it is to be reminded of truth we know “even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.”  They were established in the truth, but Peter still wants to remind them of it.  Why did he do that?  We are told why— “And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.”  To be reminded about the truths we are presently living is to firmly embed them in our memory.

How do you respond to a teaching you have already been taught and understand?  Do you say, “I already know that.”  Or, do you truly listen to deeply impact your memory so you will never forget it?  This is something to really consider.  Being reminded of things we already know helps to implant them further into our memory.  So next time you might be hearing something that you already understand, consider that it is being further ingrained into your memory to even more firmly be established in these truths you are hearing again.

Dear Father, please help me to closely listen and learn the things I hear that I have already heard and are established in.  Oh, that these known truths would be further established in my life.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9TE8D5Vs8k
