Our brothers have made our hearts melt… Do not be in dread or afraid of them. —Deuteronomy 1:28-29

You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you. —Deuteronomy 3:22

God has given us commands, His Word, directives and we are to carry them out.  We are not to be in dread or fearful as we lovingly obey Him.  What is concerning though is that there are “brothers” around us that will seek to make “our hearts melt.”  They are fearful themselves and do not want to obey our Lord and they seek to make us fearful and discourage us so that we also will not obey the Lord.

But let us stand on the Word of God and obey Him.  He loves us.  He will not ask us to be or do anything that is contrary to His character or to fulfill His purposes.  We can be absolutely sure of that even when we do not understand.  Our Lord fights for us.  We cannot do anything in our own strength.  We need Him to live out His purposes and plans.  So, “since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

So, brother and sister, fellow follower of Jesus, whatever you may face today, fix “your eyes on Jesus” and do not be afraid.  Do not let others cause your heart to “melt.”  Don’t let others discourage you or make you fearful.  Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and what his desires are for you!

Dear Father I am so grateful to know that You are ultimately in control of all things; Sovereign over all creation.  This is such a comfort to know I am safe in Your hands and that nothing in all creation can separate me from Your love.  Oh, today, may I go forward and live in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus, Your Son.  May it be so!
