TIME DOES NOT STOP

TIME DOES NOT STOP!

O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah Surely a man goes about as a shadow! Surely for nothing they are in turmoil; man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather! And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you…. surely all mankind is a mere breath!  —Psalm 39:4-7, 11

In 1973, the year I graduated high school, I remembering pondering with a friend what the year 2000 was going to be like.  That was  27 years before the year 2000.  And now look… and it is 23 years after the year 2000.  I have adult children and 8 grandchildren.  Really!  Where did time go?  Time does not stop… it just keeps going and will until the end of this age… the end of this world.

Oh, how fleeting our life is!  Spread your thumb and pinky out… the space between represents your life.  That is not very long… about 8 inches.  Or, if that does not get your attention, take a breath.  That is how short our life is… one breath!  Again, just ponder how fleeting a shadow is.  It does not last long and neither do our lives on this planet.  If this life was it, if there was nothing more, how pitiful that would be (I Corinthians 15:19).

If it were all about storing up wealth and then leaving it all behind… well, that is pretty hopeless.  BUT… brother and sister, fellow follower of Jesus, what do we wait for?  What is our focus?  What is our hope?  OUR HOPE IS IN THE LORD AND WE WAIT ON HIM!

Even “all mankind is a mere breath!”  All would be hopeless, meaningless, senseless without knowing our Lord Jesus is the Creator and Sustainer of all things.  He is the Sovereign over all and we wait for Him as we seek to faithfully serve Him.  One day, either by His return or our death, we will see that “blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).  He may come in our lifetime, but even if He does not we will see Him after death! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nyG29JJoGk

Dear Father I thank You for this awesome truth.  Thank You for allowing me to know the bigger picture even when the pieces don’t make sense at times.  Help me to live faithfully for You by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!S
