FLEE FROM WICKEDNESS AND SIN!
How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God? —Genesis 39:9
On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man. —Psalm 12:8
Oh, that we would have that mindset about wickedness and sin. How can we, why would we do “wickedness and sin against God?” Remember this, wickedness and sin is AGAINST GOD! Oh, may we flee from it as Joseph did when he was tempted to commit sexual immorality and do “great wickedness and sin against God.” Yes, Lord may I have this mindset. My desire is not to do anything that is against You. I desire to live for You.
In the Book of James we read this— “Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27). Wickedness and “vileness is exalted among the children of man” is all around us and we need to be on guard at all times. Let us be wise— the wicked among the “children of men”—
“have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” —Romans 1:29-32
Yes, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings” (I Peter 5:8-9). Those who need to “ come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26) will also be manipulated by the devil to seek to entrap you and me. The wicked and vile that “do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:32). The wicked and vile want others to practice what they practice. It is any wonder our nation and world are in the state they are? This is what happens when God is not loved, obeyed, followed and worshipped.
Brother and sister let us be on guard as we follow Jesus. Be not distracted away from our Lord. Passionately know and follow Him. “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40). Loving God and people like this will be the motivation not to sin against our God, but to do the right things, things He desires. May we do so! Yes, Father it is my desire to love and live for You and not to do anything against You. I so look forward to heaven where I will be perfect.
