BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY

BE FRUITFUL AND MULTIPLY

And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body. —Genesis 35:11

To Adam & Eve— And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” —Genesis 1:29

To Noah— Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. —Genesis 9:1

To Abram— “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” —Genesis 12:2-3

To Jacob— May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. —Genesis 28:3

To Us— Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” —Matthew 28:18-20

To be fruitful and to multiply ourselves is God’s plan down through the ages. He is calling a people to Himself as He has always done.  He works through His people to do this until the earth is “filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).

It is though the fruitfulness of the gospel and disciple-making in our households and beyond our households that will accomplish what our Lord told us to do— “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-29).  Oh, may we be faithful to His desires.  Who knows how our Lord will work through us to reach the world.  It is my desire that our Lord would work through me to reach those who will finish the work He has given us to do.  Oh, may this be so in my lifetime.

How about you?  Is it your desire for our Lord to work though you to reach your own household and beyond and that in doing so He would reach those who will finish His work?  I hope it is and may you and I be faithful in the work He has given us out of loving obedience to Him.  “For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel” (I Corinthians 9:16).  May we take the example of Jesus when He said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work. Do you not say, ‘There are still four months until the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ripe for harvest” (John 4:34-35).  Yes, Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus that the harvest would be brought in completely.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yBzIt_z8oY
