OUR GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL

OUR GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL

If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” —Daniel 3:17-18

Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. — Daniel 3:28

The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, the decision by the word of the holy ones, to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will and sets over it the lowliest of men.’ — Daniel 4:17

While the words were still in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you, and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you, until you know — Daniel 4:31-32

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble. — Daniel 4:37

Our Lord God Almighty is Sovereign over everything.  Nothing is outside His purposes and plans that He is accomplishing.  He can even take that which is evil and turn it around for good.  No king or president, pauper or pawn can stay His hand.  This is so comforting to know that our Lord is in control even when we look at a world that seems so out of control.  The evil that is taking place will be eradicated by Him one day.  Oh, may that day be soon!

There are those who want to be “worshipped.”  They think they are humanities savior, but they are not.  Hopefully many of them will come to the same conclusion that Nebuchadnezzer came to and that is “all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”  He came to understand as well “that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will.”  God works through all those in governmental authority to accomplish His purposes.  This is so hard for us to see at times, but then again, we are not God…

Yes, God rules over the kingdoms of men —over all nations.  This is greatly comforting to know.  There is purpose and plan in what appears to us a world in a mess.  As followers of Jesus we need to run the race with perseverance that is marked out for us as we keep our fixed on Jesus— the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).  We are not to bow to the gods of this world… even if it means death.  Our God will raise up those He desires to raise up and He will humble those He desires to humble.  May we trust Him as did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son and my Lord Jesus.  So be it… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x8TZiwPGa0
