I AM FREE!

I AM FREE!

Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. —I Peter 2:16

Free!  We are not imprisoned any longer.  Satan no longer has control over we who have called on Jesus who were once not thinking right, trapped and captive to do Satan’s will (II Timothy 2:26).  Now, instead of doing Satan’s will, we are set free to serve God and “keep his commands and do what pleases him” (I John 3:22).  “Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own” (John 7:17).  Freedom comes with choosing to do the “will of God.”  Jesus did say that “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).  So, live in the freedom that comes as servants of God, knowing the Truth!

But do not use “your freedom as a cover-up for evil.”  Yes, we are free and yet it is not a freedom to do whatever we want.  Freedom is not an excuse to do evil.  Paul was accused of teaching this but he responded with:

  • Why not say—as some slanderously claim that we say—”Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just! —Romans 3:8
  • What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? —Romans 6:1
  • What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! —Romans 6:15

No, we “were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love” (Galatians 5:13). Yes, let us use our freedom in Jesus to serve God because we love Him and to serve people because we love them.  This is how we will truly experience freedom— by serving God and by serving Him we serve others.  Oh, may this be how we live our lives to honor our Lord.  Yes, Dear Father, may this be how I live for You in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son and my Lord Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9o_KrIfbzM
