Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. —I Peter 1:3-5
“All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. —I Peter 1:24-25
God’s great mercy is surely toward us who have called on the Name of our Lord Jesus (Romans 10:13). He is the One who has caused us to be born again. We did not have anything to do with causing our physical birth and we had nothing to do with our being born again. He is the One who caused that to happen. He brought us to a place where we called on Jesus to save us.. He is the One who was “rich in mercy” and made us alive with Jesus “when we were dead in transgressions.
We were dead. We were following the ways of this world. We were following “the ruler of the kingdom of the air” —Satan himself (II Timothy 2:26). We were in rebellion and disobedient toward God and were “gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts.” “Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath” (Ephesians 2:1-10). Yes, we, like anyone else, deserved God’s wrath, His judgment, eternal separation from Him for ever in hell. But… He was rich in mercy toward us! Not that we are any better than anyone else, but He drew us to Jesus for His purposes (John 6:44). I am so glad He did! Praise my Lord God Almighty!
We have a Living Hope— “we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). We have “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for (us)” — “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14). Fellow follower of Jesus… It is Thanksgiving Day 2022— we should be the most thankful people on the planet, not just on this day, but every day!
This Good News never withers. This Good News never fades and falls. The glory of the Good News never ends. The Good News of this Word preached remains forever. We can count on that! So let us be thankful and share that thankfulness with others on this Thanksgiving Day.
