DISOBEDIENCE TO OUR LORD ONLY LEADS TO DESTRUCTION!

DISOBEDIENCE TO OUR LORD ONLY LEADS TO DESTRUCTION!

Obey now the voice of the LORD in what I say to you, and it shall be well with you, and your life shall be spared. —Jeremiah 38:20

And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, at Riblah, in the land of Hamath; and he passed sentence on him. The king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah at Riblah before his eyes, and the king of Babylon slaughtered all the nobles of Judah. He put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon. The Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the house of the people, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried into exile to Babylon the rest of the people who were left in the city, those who had deserted to him, and the people who remained. —Jeremiah 39:5-9

Disobedience will only lead to destruction.  King Zedekiah was warned by Jeremiah what our Lord said.  Zedekiah listened, but he did not obey.  Instead of surrendering to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, he tried to escape.  He was caught and what Jeremiah relayed what our Lord said would happen… happened.

Our Lord told Zedekiah through Jeremiah that if he surrendered to the king of Babylon then all would go well.  He would be taken captive along with everyone, but they would live.  But Zedekiah did not obey what our Lord said through Jeremiah the prophet.  His disobedience led to:

  • The slaughter of his own sons before his eyes
  • The slaughter of all the nobles of Judah
  • His own eyes being “put out”
  • His house being burned
  • The house of the people being burned
  • The walls of Jerusalem broken down
  • The people being carried off to Babylon

So much destruction because of one man’s disobedience.  One man, who happened to be the king, would not listen to our Lord and brought havoc on himself, his family, the people he governed and the very city itself.  Again, disobedience will bring destruction.  It may not be quite what happened in this passage, but it will come in some form.

Sadly, for those who will not bow the knee to Jesus and live for Him now, their destruction will be forever— “Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14:15).  So, if you happen to reading this and you have never called on Jesus to be saved.  Please do so now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZw0dfLmLk&t=3s

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world” (Hebrews 1:1-2).  LISTEN TO HIM!
