LEADERS, AND ALL PEOPLE, NEED TO LISTEN AND OBEY HIS WORD!
Yet neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words was afraid, nor did they tear their garments. —Jeremiah 36:24
But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to the words of the LORD that he spoke through Jeremiah the prophet. —Jeremiah 37:2
God was warning the Israelites through Jeremiah of impending wrath from Him through the Chaldeans, but they would not listen to the Word of the Lord. Government leaders who will not listen to God’s Word are leading the people toward God’s judgment. These leaders would rather do what they desire than what God desires. Oh, they might be “religious” and even claim to be Christians, but anybody can make this claim.
Those who are truly our Lord’s disciples, His followers, will:
- Love the Lord with all their heart as first priority
- Love people as second priority
- Obey the Lord because they love Him
- Proved they are His disciples indeed by continuing in His Word
- Be involved in good works which He has prepared beforehand
- Have others’ interests before their own
- Have a positive impact upon those they are serving with
- Not be selfish
Jesus did tell us that we would know people by their fruit (Matthew 7:16; 13:1-9; 18-23; John 15:1-7). There will be evidence in a person’s life whether they truly are His or not (James 2:14-26). How dreadful for people professing to know Him, going through the motions, speaking as it they know Him but “Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:23). “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31) “and they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46).
Let us pray for government leaders’ salvation as well as for all people (I Timothy 23:1-4). Oh, Dear Father, may we pray faithfully for our government and for all people as You desire us to.
