BEWARE OF UNGODLY COUNSEL!
The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.” So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the Lord, to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite. When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: “What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse’s son? To your tents, Israel! Look after your own house, David!” —I Kings 12:13-16
Elders usually have wisdom because of the many years they have had to apply knowledge to real life experiences or have learned from the experiences of others. You men typically will not have that type of wisdom because of fewer years to apply knowledge to life experiences.
In this case Rehoboam rejected the counsel of his elders and took the advice of the younger men, his peers. By doing so, and his plan to lay a heavier yoke on the people, he caused the nation to divide— he would rule over the south— Judah and Jeroboam will rule over the north— Israel.
Those governing should be utterly careful as to who they receive counsel from. Bad counsel from wrongly motivated people can divide a nation. We see this in America today. We are a much divided nation because of starkly different counsel that people are receiving. In that divisiveness there are extremes being take or are sought to be taken that would bring even further divide… or worse…
Abortion has always been an issue, especially since the Roe vs. Wade decision in the 70’s. There is no way around it that abortion is the taking, an ending of a life. That is what abort means— to end. The counsel received to promote this is evil, coming from people with terrible intentions. This has divided our nation… and rightly so. Righteous, God honoring people could never agree with this horrific, satanic killing of children.
Recently Whoopi Goldberg gave her opinion on abortion right at the beginning of this clip. She says abortion is between her “doctor, herself and her child.” There are those whose “counsel” is not worth listening to. She says this is not a “religious” thing. Really? It is satanic!
Brothers and sisters let us be careful who we receive our counsel from. Let us search out godly people who will give us godly counsel. Beware of those wolves in sheep’s clothing who claim to be something they are not. These type people are very divisive and very destructive.
