But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. —John 1:12-13

Rights… what rights do you really have and where do they come from?  In the U.S. Constitution we read about the Freedom of speech, the Freedom of the press, the Freedom of religion, the Freedom of assembly and the Right to petition the government.  There are many other “rights” that we have as Americans stated in the Bill of Rights.

But what is the greatest right that we have?  It is the “right” or power or authority to become children of God.  This is the wonderful privilege we have that is given to all who “receive him, who believed in his name.”  This applies only to those who have truly called on our Lord Jesus (Romans 10:13).  This eternal right can never be taken away.

Those “rights” given in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution can always be taken away.  They are not guaranteed.  But this right God has given us is our right because it is God that causes us to be born into His family and that right can never be taken away… never!

Yes, for all those who have called on Jesus for salvation, forgiveness of their sin and are saved to a relationship with God through Him— they have THE RIGHT of being God’s child.  What is better than that?  He always has our best interest in mind.  He always loves us!  This RIGHT is the most important right of all!

Dear Father I am so grateful that You have given me the right to be Your child.  Thank You for the new birth that comes with calling on Jesus.  For the rest of my life may I serve You regardless of the circumstances that come my way.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
