And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him. —Mark 15:16-20

And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.” —Mark 15:26

Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16).  Kings, lords, soldiers and people in general may mock Him now, but He will return—

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. — Revelation 19:11-16

Even if His coming does not happen in our life-time, every person will appear before the King.  Those who know Him will appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ (II Corinthians 5:10) and those who do not know Him will appear before Him at the White Throne Judgment (20:11-15).  This is an appointment set for a definite point in the future.  Nobody will miss it.  Nobody will escape it.

Yes, King Jesus will have the final word.  Powerful people on this planet will pale before Him.  Wicked people on this planet will wane before Him.  Deceivers will be diminished before Him.  Mockers will melt before Him.  “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment…” (Hebrews 9:27).  Yes, all people will appear before Jesus after death.  Be ready!

Father I am grateful to know Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords.  Now may I faithfully serve Him for the rest of my life.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!
