SERVE PEOPLE AND NOT LORD IT OVER PEOPLE

SERVE PEOPLE AND NOT LORD IT OVER PEOPLE

You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit. Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked. And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of those who are in the right. —Exodus 23:6-8

But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” —Matthew 20:25-28

Wicked rulers, and all people, will give an account to our Lord after they die.  He will not acquit the guilty.  All who reject Jesus; all who do not call on His Name will bear their own sin and be judged forever for it.

Rulers who “lord it over” the people and are not servants to them will one day have a rude awakening when they are confronted by our Lord Jesus as Judge of the Earth.  Wicked rulers—

  • Pervert justice
  • Take advantage of the poor
  • Are unfair in lawsuits
  • Bring false charges
  • Kill the innocent
  • Kill the righteous
  • Are wicked
  • Take bribes
  • Subvert those who are in the right

Yes our Lord will bring about justice in His timing.  You can be sure of that.  But we who know Jesus are not to “lord it over” people.  Instead, we are to be servants modeling after the life of our Lord.  Yes, our life is to be a life of service and not one of seeking to be served.  Worldly rulers and people look to be served and that is not to be the attitude or desires of those who follow Jesus.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtgIaMxrojw

Jesus gave His life so many could be saved.  Is not that to be why we who know Jesus are living?  Are we not to give of our life that others could come to know Jesus and live for Him as well?  Yes, may we live a life of sacrificial service.  Oh, Dear Father may we do so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  So be it!
