LIFE’S BREVITY COMPARED TO ETERNITY

LIFE’S BREVITY COMPARED TO ETERNITY

“O LORD, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah  Surely a man goes about as a shadow!  “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you…. surely all mankind is a mere breath! —Psalm 39:4-7, 11

Know, ponder and consider the measure of our days and how fleeting they are!  In these verses above our life is measured by “a few handbreadths.”  A handbreadth is the distance across your four fingers at their base.  Look at them now.  Your life is only like “a few handbreadths.”  That is not very long.

When our lives are compared to our Lord’s, they are nothing.  Compared to His eternality our lives do not even show up on the timeline.  Again, the length of our lives is like “nothing” when compared to Him.

Breathe once… that is our life.  The air comes out and that is a breath.  That is how fast our lives pass.  Or, our lives are likened to a shadow.  The light is gone and the shadow disappears.  So our “shadow” life will soon be over.

Even all mankind, say nothing about just an individual, is considered but “a mere breath!”  Wow!  This really puts perspective on who we are and who our Lord is.  This is staggering when we consider how the eternal Son of God entered time as a baby born in a manger— “Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!  And this will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:11-12).   “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).  Oh how He loves you and me!  Rejoice!  He stepped into time with us so we could step into eternity with Him!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZw0dfLmLk

Dear Father it is truly amazing that You sent Your Son into the world of time that we could spend eternity with You and all who love our Lord Jesus.  Oh, glorious day that will be and I so look forward to being there.  Until then may I live faithfully in the time You have given me here by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So be it… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U768-gCY0ds
