HE KNOWS THE FUTURE BETTER THAN WE REMEMBERING THE PAST!
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing: “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people, may the LORD his God be with him. Let him go up.’ ” —II Chronicles 36:22-23
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing: “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: “‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them. And in any locality where survivors may now be living, the people are to provide them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem.’ ”
When I say of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd,’ he will certainly do as I say. He will command, ‘Rebuild Jerusalem’; he will say, ‘Restore the Temple.’” —Isaiah 44:28
This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place. —Jeremiah 29:10
What will our world be like in 70 years or even 200 years? 200 years before the fact it was revealed that King Cyrus would allow and support the Jewish community to go back to Jerusalem. Jeremiah foretold that the Jewish community would be in Babylon for 70 years and then return. Both of these prophesies converge with Cyrus allowing the Jewish community to return after 70 years in Babylon!
Who will be reigning in the future? How will our Lord God Almighty be moving His people in the future? What does our future hold? We may not know the answers to those questions but we do know who holds the future in His hands! Let us take comfort in knowing that. Not only does He have the future in His hands but “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one” (John 10:27-30).
You are safe in His hands at this very moment. You will be safe in His hands tomorrow and for the rest of your life on this planet and for eternity! Take comfort in knowing that. He knows what will happen today, tomorrow and for the rest of your life. Seek to live faithfully for Him day by day and trust Him to work out His desires in your life and through your life.
