SEEK THE LORD IN SICKNESS OR IN HEALTH!

 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless. —II Chronicles 16:9

 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet, and his disease became severe. Yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but sought help from physicians. —II Chronicles 16:12

            Where do we turn to first in sickness or in health?   Is it not true that our Lord gives “strong support to those whose heart is blameless?” Where do we turn first when we are having health problems? Do we seek our Lord first? So many do not turn to Him first, but turn to physicians first.   Truly, where is our dependence?   Who truly is our dependence on?

            Asa sought help from the physicians when his feet were diseased. He did not turn to the Lord for help. What a huge mistake! Let us not make the same mistake. If or when our health fails may we first turn to our Lord for help. He gives “strong support to those whose heart is blameless.” Yes, let us run to Him first!

            Does that mean He does not work through doctors as well? Of course He does just as He works through men in so many other ways. He works through us to bring the gospel to others. He could do that Himself, but He has chosen us to do so. So also He can either directly heal people or work through others, doctors, to do so. Ultimately, just like it is His gospel that saves so also it is He who heals— directly or through others.
