GET GODLY COUNSEL!

GET GODLY COUNSEL!

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.  —Proverbs 26:12

The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly. —Proverbs 26:16

There are some people who just will not listen to the advice of others. In their own eyes they have the answer and they are not open to hearing anyone else. They think they know better than everybody else. They think they only have the truth in the matter. Even when there is a large group of people giving counsel contrary to him he still will hold to his position. It is rightly said that “There is more hope for a fool than for him.”

            God’s Word is clear—

  • For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers. —Proverbs 15:22
  • Set plans by consultation, and wage war under sound guidance. —Proverbs 20:18
  • Only with sound guidance should you wage war, and victory lies in a multitude of counselors. —Proverbs 24:6

Who do you and I have around us to discuss matters that need to be understood? Do we just rely on our own understanding or do we get advice from others who are faithful in counsel? We were created to be interdependent with each other. No man is meant to be an island. Any man that is an island is in danger of self-deception.

So, who are those people you have around you that have your best interest in mind? They cannot be people who will just agree with you so as to not make waves. These people should be people that really care about you and will advise you with what you need to hear which may not necessarily be what you want to hear. Do you have those type people around you?

Of course the top priority Advisor should be our Lord.   Why not go to the One who knows all things and has all knowledge and wisdom? He is the One we need to listen to and obey. The best counselors will be those who love the Lord our God with all their heart, soul, strength and mind and who love people as they love themselves.   These are the type of people that will be very helpful counselors because they are looking to Him for counsel as well.

Need counsel? Make sure you are going to the Lord first. Be reading His Word and listening to what He has to say. Seek out others who are doing the same to get advice.   Yes, Dear Father may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus Your Son.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1cbIFAO77E
