BE WISE, NOT JUST KNOWLEDGEABLE!
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. 24 —Proverbs 3:13-23
Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown. —Proverbs 4:5-9
What is more precious than that of gold, silver or jewels? What is it that nothing can compare to? It is wisdom and understanding. Those who live by our Lord’s wisdom/understanding will generally live longer. No always, but generally will. Why? Because they are living more as our Lord desires them to. Wisdom can also bring riches and honor. Riches and honor come in various forms, but those who live by wisdom/understanding will experience these. They will also know pleasantness and peace as they travel these ways and paths. Consider that it was by wisdom that our Lord created and established everything. You think we can learn from what He has done? Let us ponder His works! Want to feel absolutely secure? Then walk in His ways!
With wisdom comes understand and insight. These are not to be turned away from, forgotten or forsaken. Those who apply the understanding and insight that wisdom reveals will be kept by wisdom. Those who love wisdom will be guarded by wisdom. Indeed, the beginning of wisdom is to get wisdom and insight. Wisdom is to be prized highly and it will exalt those who do. If wisdom is embraced it will bring honor to those who do so.
It is not enough to have knowledge. People can have tons of knowledge on any subject, but what use is it unless they have with that knowledge wisdom, understanding and insight? To know how to apply that knowledge to life correctly, for our Lord’s perspective, is what is most important.
Do you have knowledge alone or do you have wisdom— wisdom, understanding and insight that come from our Lord? Those with His wisdom will be “trees of life” and blessed. May that describe you and me.
