VAIN WORSHIP OR NOT

And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;  in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ —Mark 7:6-7

            What is vain worship? It is when we honor our Lord with lips alone. It is having a heart that is far from Him. It is the teaching of men’s ideas and not the Word of God. This is hypocritical.

            So, I ask myself— Am I worshipping my Lord Jesus in vain? Am I honoring Him just with my lips? Is my heart far from Him? Am I teaching man’s ideas or God’s Word? Am I being a hypocrite?

            Oh my Father, may I be worshipping You “in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).   May my thoughts, words and deeds agree in honoring You. May I teach Your Word and not my own ideas.
