A HEART AFTER GOD
And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after. —Numbers 15:39
So too we are to remember the Word of our Lord and obey. The person who does so shows they truly love Him (John 14:21). We are “not to follow after our own heart”—
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” —Jeremiah 17:7-10
Yes, we are to trust the Word of our Lord, lovingly obey Him and not our eyes, not our flesh and not our pride.
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. —I John 2:15-17
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever c you want.” —Galatians 5:16-17
Oh, that we would “keep in step with the Spirit” and “not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Yes, moment by moment may we seek to yield to God’s Holy Spirit and not to our own desires.
Dear Father may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus— all for Your honor and glory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlSmG-_eJTU
