DISCIPLE!

DISCIPLE!

Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth… —Numbers 11:23

Here we receive insight into the life of Joshua.  He eventually became the leader of Israel and the Lord worked through him to bring His people into the Promise Land.  Joshua “had been Moses’ aide since youth.”  Oh, how important it is to disciple young people to become what the Lord desires them to be and not be swayed by the world which includes false teachers and cults.

It is so important to disciple young people that they would grow mature and be depending on the Lord and not be swayed in the spiritual warfare they will encounter.  We see this when the twelve spies come back from searching out the Land.  Ten of the spies gave a bad report but “Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.  If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.  Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them. But the whole assembly talked about stoning them” (Number 14:6-9).  Joshua stood firm even in the midst of being threaten to be killed.  How many young people do we know like that?  For that matter, how many adults do we know like that?  Are we one of them?  May it be so.

I am so grateful for those who took the time to disciple us along the way.  There have been couples and individuals that have encouraged Elaine and me to be maturing in the “race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).  I am so grateful for their encouragement.  May we be like Joshua— “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).  So be it!

Dear Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I am so grateful to know that Jesus said He would never leave us or forsake us and that He will be with us until the end of the age.  It that was not the case I would not go on, but because it is the case I will go on whatever may befall me.  Thank You for Your strength and encouragement.  May I honor You above all things.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu2S9y3r0XE
