HIS WORD TO US

HIS WORD TO US

The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” —Jeremiah 1:4-10

Isn’t this true of you and me as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ? Did He not know us before we were formed in the womb? Did He not set us apart before we were born? Are we not “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do?” (Ephesians 2:10). Has He not “marked out for us” the race He planned for us and that we should fix “our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith?” (Hebrews 12:2-3).

We too need to be like Jeremiah— “I do not know how to speak” and hear what the Lord says— “You must go to everyone I send you to and say what I command” knowing that we are safe in the Lord Jesus Christ according to His plans and purposes for us. After all, He appointed the time in his-story when we would live and where we would live for His plans and purposes (Acts 17:26).

Jesus has appointed us to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). Let us be faithfully obedient to His call on our lives. May it be so!

Dear Father, I cannot do anything in my own strength— this I surely understand. Today, may I live in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. Be pleased to work in and through me today to impact someone for eternity. May it be so for Your honor and glory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJq1N4PiH28
