It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall. —Psalm 75:7

Wow, so many people are anxious, bitter, angry or even despairing over this up-coming election. That should not be so with us fellow follower of Jesus! We know who is ultimately in control of all things and works all things together to carry out His plans and purposes. That is what He has been doing since the Fall of Man (Genesis 3) — since man decided not to follow God’s ways, rebel and do what He desires. But this does not hinder the Lord God Almighty to accomplish His desires. He works in and through this fallen world to move it along toward the end of the age when His glory will be fully revealed (Revelation 19-22). Nothing is escaping His notice even though the lost like to believe He does not notice. There is a time coming when He will judge!

Since the church came into existence through the death and resurrection of Jesus and by God’s giving of the Holy Spirit to all who trust Him, the church has lived under all kinds of regimes. Violent physical persecution of Jesus followers by nations through the ages has a very long list— from Rome in the early church to the present day middle-eastern Islamic nations, China, North Korea, many African nations and the list goes on. Where ever the church exists there is persecution to some degree. The church was told that tails, tribulations, persecutions and death would come because of love for Jesus. This should be no surprise when it happens.

But let us remember that it is God who “decides who will rise and who will fall.” We must be responsible with the responsibilities He has given us to be responsible with and trust Him to carry out His desires as He desires. May we be faithful in this and trust that He is working out His plans and purposes and will do so until the end of time.

Dear Father, I am grateful to know that You are over all things and that nothing escapes Your notice… nothing! May I be faithful and trust You to rise up and put down those You desire to accomplish Your will. May I be faithful in fulfilling the part You would have me fulfill in the authority of Jesus and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
