YOU ARE OF GREAT WORTH!
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. —Luke 12:6-7
…life does not consist in an abundance of possessions. —Luke 12:15
But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” —Luke 12:20-21
Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! —Luke 12:24
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. —Luke 12:34
What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight. —Luke 16:15
What is it that you value the most right now in your life? Job? Education? Family? Investments? Money? A relationship? Sex? Drugs? Reputation? What you value is what makes you FEEL valuable. Take away what you think is valuable and your self-worth plummets. It is then that you do not feel like much of anything may feel worthless and may even consider suicide.
According to Luke 12:20-21 we are told that a rich relationship with God prepares a person read to face death whenever it may happen. God actually says a person is a “fool” who has focused on gaining material wealth without concern for their relationship with Him. Their focus is on the temporal and not the eternal. Where is your focus?
Your value comes from God. He is the One who uniquely made you. God knows all about the sparrows and ravens that He has created. He remembers them and takes care of them. But He says that “you are worth more than many sparrows.” Extremist environmentalists would have a problem with that statement, but the reality is that God puts your value way above birds and all of creation. As a matter of fact we are told “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36). You are more valuable than the whole world! Did you know that? That is how much God values you! Your feelings of worth should sky-rocket!
Now, if that is not enough to get your attention consider this: the Eternal Son of God died for your sins on the cross. The ETERNAL SON OF GOD took care of your eternal sin problem so you could know God, serve God and be with Him in heaven one day. If that is not enough to show how valuable you are in God’s sight, then you are living in an illusionary world of false realities. Oh, that you and I would understand the reality of His value and love for us!
Dear Father, thank You for the value You have placed upon me. Oh, please help me not to take this for granted, but live in such a way as to show my great appreciation for all that you have done for me. Oh, that I would truly seek to live a faithful life according to Your desires in the Lord Jesus. May it be so!
