JESUS SAID, “IT IS FINISHED”

JESUS SAID, “IT IS FINISHED”

Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. —Hebrews 7:23-28

Priests under the law had “to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people.” The sin problem was never resolved under the law. Again and again, day after day, month after month, year after year, decade after decade… there was a constant sacrifice for the priest’s own sins and also for the sins of the people.

But Jesus saves completely those who come to God through Him “because he always lives to intercede for them.” Romans 8:34 says, “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Jesus “did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence” (Hebrews 9:24). “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father–Jesus Christ, the Righteous One” (I John 2:1). Praise God that Jesus intercedes on our behalf!

Jesus is such a High Priest that “truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.” He did not have any sin and so did not have to make sacrifices again and again, day after day, month after month, year after year, decade after decade… But “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2). His sacrifice was just once for all “the sins of the people.” Praise God that Jesus is our Advocate before the Father interceding on our behalf and that His “once for all sacrifice” takes care of the sin problem. Otherwise when we fail and sin, we would be eternally lost again. No, His final sacrifice truly secures those who have called on His Name. Rejoice!

Dear Father, I am so grateful to know I am safe and secure in Jesus. Now, may I bring this good news of the gospel to others so they do can know You and Jesus Christ whom You have sent on our behalf. Oh, may this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjLlLPZderk
